• Casino and Gambling Mogul of Macau; Stanley Ho

When you are a rich man, the world is your playground. There is always a beginning though and not everybody gained the riches through doing nothing. Most of today's successful businessmen and leaders have worked themselves up from rags to riches and can proudly say that they earned their success. Today we are going to take a closer look at Macau's gambling mogul Stanley Ho, and how he got to be all the way up there.

Gambling mogul Stanley Ho was born in Hong Kong on November 25, 1921 as Stanley Ho Tung. The family he was born into was a very wealthy family at that time and he was the 9th out of 13 children. Gambling mogul Stanley Ho visited the Queen's College in Hong Kong for his secondary education, but he did not do well and landed in the class D, since the Chinese education system labels students according to letter with A being the highest.

His family went bankrupt due to the stock market crash, his two brothers killed themselves and because of that Ho's father had left the family. That was the time when future gambling mogul Stanley Ho realized that he should study hard and he was soon accepted at the University of Hong Kong. Stanley soon became fluent in three other languages which were Portuguese, English and Japanese.

His first work experience was not even close to being a gambling mogul. He started out at an import-export company and worked his ways up to his first million. Gambling mogul Stanley Ho then moved to Macau in 1941 and started working there at a trading company. With his first million he invested in a kerosene company and set up a construction company. This was the time when Stanley Ho became the gambling mogul that we know today. He took some business partners aside and bid for the ooportunity to open casinos and other establishments with the promise of infrastructure and tourism.

This is how Stanley got his gambling monopoly and his company was renamed in 1961 into what is now known as the Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, in short S.T.D.M. His first Macau mega structure was the casino hotel Lisboa which made him the first gambling mogul in China. Over the years, his company invested and built more gambling facilities and other establishments. The newest brainchild of gambling mogul Stanley Ho is the Grand Lisboa which will be the biggest casino in Macau alongside the Venetian Macau and the Wynn.

Stanley Ho has made it from riches to rags and all the way back to riches. He is the Asian gambling mogul and will stay in the gambling mogul throne for the rest of his life.
